DUBLIN – 2 July 2018 – The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) has retained the title of ‘Europe's Leading Meetings & Conference Centre’ at the 25th annual World Travel Awards in Greece.

The announcement was made at the Europe Gala Ceremony, attended by hundreds of travel industry professionals in Zappeion Megaron Hall, Athens on Saturday evening. This is the second consecutive year that The CCD has won this prestigious award, winning both the European and World title in 2017.

Picking up the award on Saturday, Paul Carnell, Sales Director of The CCD said, “We are delighted to win ‘Europe’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre 2018’. The World Travel Awards are particularly significant, as they are voted for by travel and tourism professionals and consumers throughout Europe. It’s a massive endorsement from across the industry and I’d like to thank everyone who voted for us again this year.”

Stephen Meehan, CEO of The CCD also commented, “We are deeply honoured at this fantastic achievement for the second year running. People are the heartbeat of The CCD and this award is testament to the passion and dedication of the team, who offer exceptional service to everyone who comes to our venue.”

He also paid tribute to the tourism industry in Ireland, adding, “We are delighted to see our fellow 2017 winners, Sandymount Hotel, also bring home ‘Europe’s Leading Green Hotel’ again this year. Ireland is a key player in the industry, which is evident in the Irish representation at the World Travel Awards. Business tourism is growing strong and we are privileged to represent Ireland on a global stage and play a significant role in attracting business tourism to the country.”

The venue beat off tough competition from Austria Center Vienna, Berlin ExpoCenter City, ExCeL London, Fira Barcelona, Grand Resort Lagonissi, Istanbul Congress Center, Messe Frankfurt Convention Centre, MiCo Milano Congressi, Palais Des Congres De Paris and Palexpo.

Following this achievement, The CCD moves forward to compete with other regional winners for the ultimate title of ‘World's Leading Meetings & Conference Centre’ which will be announced at the Grand Final Gala Ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal in December.
