DUBLIN – 19 May 2016 – Dublin has risen to 18th place in the International Congress and Conventions Association (ICCA) 2015 rankings, bringing it into the top 20 cities worldwide for hosting international association conferences.

This represents a jump of six places on the city’s 2014 ranking, after hosting 97 events which met ICCA's strict qualifying criteria. Dublin also rose three places in the European rankings to 14th spot overall and Ireland moved up five places to 32nd in the country rankings, with a total of 125 conferences held last year.

Nick Waight, CEO of The CCD commented, “We are delighted with this significant improvement in Dublin’s ranking as an international meetings destination. We have had a fantastic start to 2016, already confirming over 70 events as far out as 2021. We are dedicated to promoting Ireland as a place to do business and believe that with so many European headquarters based here, it’s hard to deny that one of the best countries in the world for doing business, is also the perfect destination for hosting business events.”

“We are also very proud of our own contribution to this result, and we compliment all of our industry partners and Fáilte Ireland on this achievement,” he added.

Miriam Kennedy, Head of Business Tourism at Fáilte Ireland commented, “These solid results reflect the hard work on the ground from everybody involved in Ireland’s conference sector. We are certainly punching above our weight with Dublin and Ireland ranking ahead of larger and more established destinations.”

ICCA’s criteria for world rankings stipulate that association meetings must be held on a regular basis, have at least 50 delegates, and rotate between at least three countries.
