The Waterboys present ‘Fisherman’s Blues Revisited’ at The CCD
DUBLIN – 21 March 2013 – To celebrate the 25th anniversary of their classic album Fisherman’s Blues, and the 2013 release of EMI's 7 CD set, Fisherman’s Box, The Waterboysare to play in a concert at The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) on 23 December 2013.
The Waterboys were formed in 1983 by lead singer Mike Scott. The band's membership, past and present, has been composed of musicians from Scotland, Ireland and England. The Waterboys have played in a number of different styles, but essentially their music is a mix of Celtic folk and rock and roll. After 10 years of recording and touring, the band dissolved in 1993, but reformed in 2000, and continue to release albums and tour worldwide.
The Dublin concert is part of a wider tour Britain and Ireland, and will feature a special line-up reuniting Mike Scott and Steve Wickham with Fisherman's Blues band members Anto Thistlewaite and Trevor Hutchinson for the first time since 1990. The four will also be joined by current Waterboys drummer Ralph Salmins.
The repertoire will be a re-exploration of the band's music of the Fisherman's Blues period. Mike Scott comments "We won't be playing the original Fisherman's Blues album in order or anything tame like that. Instead we'll be using the band's vintage repertoire as a starting point for a new blast of the freewheeling, improvised spirit of The Waterboys in those days. I want that old fire burning again, Steve and Anto wailing like the two-man orchestra I remember, when anything could, and did, happen."
Concert goers can expect souped-up, full power versions of lots of 1985-88 Waterboys numbers, plus hits, innovations and surprises. Tickets will be priced at €44.50 and will be on salefrom Friday 22nd March 2013.
