LONDON – International Confex 2011 – Stand P144 – March 1, 2011 – The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) announced today that it was selected to host Interaction 12, the annual conference of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA), which is the first time this event will be held outside of North America.
Scheduled in February, 2012, the event will gather together the international design community to network, exchange ideas and showcase design projects. Set to attract in excess of 750 delegates, Interaction 12 is being co-hosted by the Dún Laoghaire Institute for Art, Design and Technology (IADT) and IxDA Dublin.
"This is a major achievement for Dublin. It is clear our industry will play a vital role in Dublin’s current evolution from capital city of a knowledge economy to a global hub for research, design and development,” said Séamus Byrne, IxDA Dublin and Interaction 12 co-chair. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to bestow a thousand million welcomes from Dublin to the global IxDA community."
Dublin was one of five cities proposed to host Interaction 12. Other proposed cities included Berlin, Delft, Helsinki and Paris. The Selection Board endorsed Dublin, based on the strength of the city's coordinated, city-wide support for the conference, the activity of the local interaction design community, the experience of the professional conference team, and the quality of the conference facilities on offer.
“It is our pleasure to host the first IxDA conference outside of North America,” said Catherine Newhall-Caiger, Sales Director, The Convention Centre Dublin. “With easy access to Europe and North America, Dublin has become quite a magnet for innovative companies such as Google, Facebook, eBay and Paypal, making the City a fitting location for the IxDA conference.”
Abbey Conference & Corporate has been appointed as the Professional Conference Organiser to manage this event in Dublin.
