Dublin – June 6, 2012 - The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) has been recognised as a runner up by the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC) in the 2012 Apex Award for ‘World's Best Convention Centre’ which was presented at the 2012 AIPC Annual Conference in Amsterdam this week.
The top award was presented to the Royal College of Physicians, London, with Belfast Waterfront and Orange County Convention Center also recognised as runners up. 18 international venues qualified for the competition by achieving a high level of client testimonials to serve as a basis for an independent evaluation and analysis by the international research firm Ipsos.
"The AIPC Apex award holds great international prestige, and we are honoured to have been recognised as a runner up, less than two years after opening”, said Nick Waight, CEO, The CCD. “We had great debate on whether to enter the awards this year, given that the entry criteria included clients from 2010 and 2011, and we only opened in September 2010! But I am delighted that once again, our service has been recognised internationally, and especially pleased that it is due to client feedback, which is invaluable to us.”
The AIPC Apex Award is based on an extensive analysis of customer input via detailed surveys and reflects an unbiased picture of a centre's performance as seen through the eyes of its customers. The analysis covers a range of categories including facilities, project management, customer relations, catering, creativity and technology.
"Our runners-up are deserving of real recognition, given the very high standards required to compete in this program and the fact that they each achieved this distinction by being top-ranked in a specific category of evaluation", said AIPC President, Edgar Hirt. "Overall, we feel the AIPC Apex Award goes far beyond simply the winners as it creates important information and insights that drive overall centre performance ".
AIPC is a professional, non-profit association representing a global network of 173 leading centres in 54 countries with the active involvement of more than 750 management-level professionals. It is committed to encouraging and recognizing excellence in convention centre management.
