The CCD together with the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland will host a large medical conference in 2023 worth over €4.8 million to the Irish economy.
In a joint bid, competing against Vienna and Istanbul, Dublin was successful in securing the 33rd Annual European Congress of Pathology for 2023.
DUBLIN – 10 December 2019 – The prestigious congress will be held at The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) and will attract over 3,000 delegates from the specialty of pathology. This conference is worth over €4.8 million towards the Irish economy, contributing towards Fāilte Ireland’s target to grow the business tourism and events sector to €1bn by 2025. Pathology, as a discipline, spans all aspects of healthcare, from screening for disease, diagnosing disease, monitoring of chronic diseases, to cutting-edge genetic research vital for the development of better treatment strategies.
The successful bid to hold the conference in Dublin was led by Professor Louise Burke, Dean, Faculty of Pathology at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. The CCD worked with Professor Burke throughout the bidding process, with strong support from Fāilte Ireland’s Dublin Convention Bureau (DCB) and the Lord Mayor of Dublin.
Professor Burke and The CCD team were invited to present to the society board in Brussels along with other competing cities on the 17 February 2019. The awarding of the Congress to Dublin was announced by the European Society of Pathology General Assembly at the ESP meeting in Nice on 11 September 2019.
