The International Union for Quaternary Science (INQUA) 20th Congress will take place over seven days and will include a lecture programme and excursions throughout Ireland, Northern Ireland and parts of the UK.

Climate change, sea level rise, ice-ages, human evolution amoung many more are subjects that draw passion and interest among the public. The little-known term that incorporates all these scientific strands is ‘The Quaternary’.

The Quaternary Period spans the last 2.6 million years of the Earth's history. The Quaternary is an interval with dramatic and frequent changes in global climate. INQUA aims to promote improved communication and international collaboration in experimental and applied aspects of Quaternary research, in order to contribute in practical ways to an evaluation of the scale and rates of global environmental changes during the recent geological past.
