Shri. Ilaiyaraaja, born on June 2, 1943, is one of India’s most celebrated music composers, renowned for his extraordinary contributions to the Indian film industry.He has composed over 8,800 songs and created music for more than 1,543 feature films in over nine languages.
Widely known as “Isaignani” and “Maestro,” he is admired for blending Indian folk traditions with Western classical music. He was the first South Asian composer to create a full symphony, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London.
Dr. Ilaiyaraaja has received five National Awards, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan. In 2022, he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha as a Member of Parliament by the Government of India.
