Dublin - A Sustainable Destination
Almost one-third of Ireland's energy needs come from wind, the second-highest in Europe for wind energy. 2018 was a record breaking year, as for the first time, wind energy provided more electricity than gas over a full month.
Ireland is easily accessible for international delegates with Dublin Airport serving almost 200 destinations in 43 countries. Dublin Airport focuses on reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions and promotes sustainable practices amongst all users of the airport.
There are over 160 hotels with 20,000 rooms in the city, and many are in walking distance of The CCD. Dublin is home to ‘Europe’s Leading Green Hotel’, the Sandymount Hotel and ‘Europe’s First Sustainable Hotel’, the Iveagh Garden Hotel, which sources its energy from the underground River Swan .
Dublin city boasts an array of public transport with the DART, Luas, Dublin Bus and dublinbikes, providing the option to cycle around the city. The number of commuters cycling into the city is currently at its highest level on record.
Dublin has become a recognised centre of tech excellence. From Google to Facebook and Twitter, the tech giants of the world have chosen Dublin as their European base. Twitter’s Dublin headquarters is known as the greenest Twitter office in the world and was the first to achieve the highest LEED certification.
The CCD - A Sustainable Venue
From the energy we use, right through to our recycling procedures, we have taken a vested interest in being a green venue and specialise in hosting sustainable events. We are also committed to long-term sustainability in accordance with the International Standards Organisation (ISO) 14001.
The CCD is recognised as the first carbon-neutral constructed convention centre in the world, as the net impact of the building’s construction on the environment was zero. The venue’s contemporary design, making use of natural light also meets the highest standards of environmental sustainability.
The CCD is situated 15 minutes from Dublin Airport and at the heart of the city’s transport hub. There is a dublinbikes depot located outside the venue and secure bike facilities in the underground carpark, which also has spaces for up to 320 cars including two car charging points for electric cars (e-cars).
With many digital branding options to choose from, including the use of the digital screens throughout the building, an event app, Wi-Fi landing page or even a projection onto the building, we can offer a seamless brand experience for our clients.
Our comprehensive waste management policy helps manage the segregation of waste. We continually work hard to monitor and improve our recycling figures, which rank consistently above 98%.
As the second venue in the world to receive a Silver Healthy Venue accreditation from the World Obesity Federation, we are committed to offering healthy choices for delegates. We are the proud winner of ‘Europe’s Leading Meeting and Convention Centre 2019’ at the World Travel Awards and ‘Best Overseas Conference Centre’ at the 2019 M&IT Awards.
Our CCD Hospitality team ensure that all products are eco-friendly. Our on-site catering company ‘Fitzers’ are currently the only catering company in Ireland to hold the ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Standard, passing their most recent audit in June 2019 with 100% conformance.
We host some great events for clients who have sustainability at the top of their mind. INQUA, which is an event that focuses on environmental change, took place at The CCD in July, and Deloitte held their most sustainable event yet at The CCD in September. Looking ahead, the European clean electricity conference, Eurelectric, is set to come to The CCD in May 2020.
