Dublin Leaps to 13th Place in the World ICCA City Rankings

Dublin - 16 May 2014 - Dublin has risen to 13th place in the ICCA (International Congress and Conventions Association) rankings for the top cities worldwide for international association conferences.

This represents a leap of nine places on Dublin’s 2012 ranking of 22nd city in the world.

Dublin is now ranked ahead of many traditionally high profile cities for international meetings, including Brussels, Copenhagen, Rome and Budapest. To achieve this ranking, the city hosted 114 qualifying events, demonstrating its growing popularity as a conference destination for international association meetings, of world-class calibre.

Keith McCormack, Head of Business Tourism at Failte Ireland commented “Strong ICCA results rely on a wide array of stakeholders providing a top class, flexible and dynamic service throughout the year. This significant achievement is something we and our stakeholders should be very proud of.”

Nick Waight, CEO of The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) remarked “We are delighted to see this dramatic improvement in Dublin’s ranking as an international meetings destination and compliment all our industry partners on the achievement. We are very proud of our own contribution to this result, having hosted over 940 events since opening in 2010, during which we have seen the city move from 32nd in the world to 13th, over a four-year period. We continue to work in close collaboration with ‘Team Ireland’ to promote Dublin and Ireland as a destination for exceptional events, driving significant business tourism revenue.”

Since opening in September 2010, The CCD has hosted over 900,000 delegate days, and has won 26 Industry Awards, including recognition by the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC) as one of the top four convention centres in the world, as one of three runners-up for ‘World’s Best Convention Centre’ at the AIPC Apex Awards 2012.
