Dublin City University to host World Conference on Online Learning at The Convention Centre Dublin

DUBLIN – 8 December 2017 – The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) has announced that it will welcome the 2019 World Conference on Online Learning after Dublin City University (DCU) was selected as host by the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE).

Held every second year, the conference is the largest and most prestigious international event exploring new open, online and flexible models of education. DCU was supported by Fáilte Ireland, Happening Conferences and Events and The CCD in the preparation of its successful bid against other competition to host the World Conference.

Gard Titlestad, ICDE Secretary General commented, “DCU submitted an outstanding case to host the 28th ICDE World Conference, which in November 2019 will attract to Dublin the world’s leading scholars, researchers, innovators, policy-makers, industry partners and practitioners working in the field”.

Adrienne Clarke, Head of Conference Sales at The CCD added, “We are delighted that the World Conference is taking place at The CCD. We believe the venue is the ideal location to bring together leaders in the field of online learning, and we congratulate Fáilte Ireland on a successful bid as part of its ambassador programme”.

DCU’s success in winning the rights to host the 2019 event was announced recently in a presentation to over 1,400 delegates from 96 countries during the closing ceremony at this year’s World Conference in Toronto.

Professor Mark Brown, Director of the National Institute for Digital Learning (NIDL) and 2019 World Conference Chair said, “Our successful bid in hosting the World Conference with a theme of ‘Transforming Lives and Societies’ is recognition of DCU’s leadership and growing international reputation in the area of online learning. It will provide an excellent platform to showcase both Ireland’s innovation in digital learning and global reputation in the IT sector”.
