The Teradata Universe Conference is held annually and is uniquely positioned as Europe’s leading Enterprise Data Warehousing, Advanced Analytics and Business Intelligence Conference, with around 1,000 delegates visiting from all over the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

As a forward-thinking global leader in data warehousing, Teradata was looking for an impressive venue with the ability to meet its technology requirements, to host a number of different content and networking sessions simultaneously, and with convenient hotel and transport links.

As well as the event programme itself, the city and the venue have a role to play in attracting delegates so the Teradata team wanted an attractive destination to create a positive impact.

The Teradata Universe Conference has grown significantly since it was first held 17 years ago and moves around Europe but had never been held in Dublin before. The 2011 event was held in Barcelona so Teradata were looking for a northern European destination for 2012 and considered Dublin, London and Prague.

The CCD was chosen, as Teradata believed that the venue was perfect for the event and had previously wanted to host the conference in Dublin but had decided that there was no suitable venue. It was felt that Dublin had the right combination of venue, attractions, hotels and transport links.

The Belgian-based Teradata team employed CROZZ Events to organise the logistics and both parties worked closely with The CCD team to plan the event. The teams established an easy working relationship with ongoing discussions and speedy feedback key to ensuring that the event could be seamlessly delivered.

The main plenary sessions were held in the auditorium. Although this was a sizable event, the circa 1,000 delegates were not close to filling the 2,000 capacity auditorium so the team decided to use the lower tier only to provide a more intimate setting. The guests could therefore fill the space without it seeming crowded, and due to lighting used, it wasn’t obvious from the stage or the audience that the upper tier was not in use.

Liffey B was used as a consulting lounge and bespoke rooms were built inside the hall. Additional rooms were used throughout the venue for breakout sessions and open areas were used for networking and informal meetings. As usual, The CCD Hosts were on hand during the event to make sure that everything ran smoothly for delegates and that they received assistance where required.

Breakfast meetings and lunch were hosted within The CCD and gala dinners were held in the evenings at other Dublin venues to give delegates the chance to explore the city.

Teradata wanted to make the most of the brand fit with The CCD and used The CCD’s external facade projection capabilities to light up the building in its corporate orange at night.

The conference attracted close to 1,000 delegates from 40 countries across the EMEA region. This was a 14% increase on the number of attendees at the 2011 conference in Barcelona.

The feedback received was excellent and included comments on the building itself and the service on which The CCD team prides itself. The client and delegates enjoyed the attractive features of The CCD such as the light and airy spaces and the escalators that overlook the River Liffey. They commented positively on The CCD team’s helpful, chatty approach and great eye for detail.

“This year’s event was a real success. The service is extremely impressive – The CCD team have a great ability to spot when and where help is needed without having to be asked. It felt like a real family.” Scarlett Van der Meulen, Conference Manager, Teradata EMEA
