The CCD Won Major Industry Award and Passed 200 Event Milestone Within First Six Months of Operation

LONDON - International Confex - Stand P144 - March 1, 2011 - The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) announced today that it has won silver in the Best Overseas Convention Centre award from Meetings and Incentive Travel Industry Awards 2011.

Presented at a gala dinner in London last night, this industry award was based on the votes from Meetings and Incentive Travel (M&IT) magazine readers. In addition, The CCD hosted over 200 events at the centre in its first six months of operation. Since opening its doors in September 2010, The CCD has welcomed 13,000 international delegates, which has generated an additional €22 million* for the local economy.

“Winning the award last night was really the icing on the cake as the industry are our toughest critics and it is great to get such support from them,” said Nick Waight, CEO, The Convention Centre Dublin. “We are delighted to have hosted over 200 events at The CCD, which is a testament to the demand for a purpose-built convention centre in the heart of Dublin, one of Europe’s most popular destinations. However, we have set the bar high and we will work hard to keep it at that level.”

To date, events hosted at The CCD include the 39th European Dialysis & Transplant Nurses Association Conference, European Union of Geriatric Medicine Society Conference (EUGMS), XFactor Auditions, Google EMEA Sales Conference, Globe Forum 2010, Taste of Christmas, UK Fertilities Conference, European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation Conference, American Chamber of Commerce 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner and the 8th Irish Film & Television Awards Ceremony.

The CCD has confirmed a variety of events up until 2015, including conferences, meetings, banquets and concerts, such as Project Management Institute EMEA Global Congress, International Congress on Accident & Emergency Medicine, Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution, TM Forum - Management World Conference, International Statistical Institute Conference,  7th European Course on Clinical Cytometry,  Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland Conference, European Seating Symposium, Orthopaedic Association
