Dublin - April 14, 2011 - The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) announced today that it has been selected to host the EuroPRevent 2012 Congress, the premiere international forum for preventive cardiology.

For the first time during this event, the new 2012 European guidelines on the prevention of cardiovascular disease in clinical practice will be launched. Organised by the European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation, the event is scheduled from 3-5 May, 2012.

“As a professor of cardiology, I have dedicated my career to looking for ways to prevent and fight heart disease and to promote awareness of this issue,” said Professor Ian Graham, co-chair of the Congress Programme Committee and Local Organiser. “It was a pleasure working closely with the Irish Heart Foundation to help bring EuroPRevent 2012 to Dublin and I look forward to welcoming world experts and international delegates to the City for this important event.”

The EuroPRevent 2012 Congress will also include dedicated educational and implementation programmes targeted at cardiologists, family doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and voluntary bodies such as Heart Foundations, as well as health planners, local and international politicians, Departments of Health and Health executives.

“As the national charity fighting heart disease and stroke, the Irish Heart Foundation is delighted to welcome the arrival of EuroPrevent to Dublin in 2012,” said Dr Angie Brown, Medical Director of the Irish Heart Foundation and consultant cardiologist. “It is a timely event given the worrying rising trends in cardiovascular risk factors such as obesity, diabetes and lack of physical activity in the Irish population. We look forward to a thought-provoking event to drive greater improvements in prevention both in Ireland and Europe-wide.”

EuroPRevent 2012 will bring together leading international health experts to present their research and translate it into useable knowledge for health care workers, researchers, planners and policy makers.

“As Heart disease is Ireland’s number one killer, Dublin seems like a fitting place to host EuroPRevent 2012,” said Catherine Newhall-Caiger, Sales Director, The Convention Centre Dublin. “We are delighted to provide a world-class venue for this prestigious international event, which should help to raise awareness for this, often preventable, condition.”
