About us

Corporate Social Responsibility

Working to become a valued part of the local community

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or Corporate Responsibility (CR) has become an important part of many businesses today. At The Convention Centre Dublin we are committed to actively engaging with the local community to build a better society.

Local Employment

We are creating employment in the local community. During the construction phase, up to 750 people were directly employed on site plus hundreds more in off-site fabrication. The CCD will employ up to 250 permanent employees and that number will increase by up to 400 more part-timers to service larger events. In addition, as many of our delegates will be international, local businesses, such as taxis, hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and tourist attractions, will also benefit directly and immediately from the opening of The CCD.

Local Suppliers

As part of our dedication to CSR, we have sourced and have begun working with local suppliers across all departments at The CCD, for example, we are using local design, print, furniture, uniform and food and beverage suppliers.

The CCD Time Capsule Project

On November 24, 2010, The Convention Centre Dublin team sealed a Time Capsule with the help of local schools and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Mary Hanafin, TD.

Earlier this year, The CCD reached out to local schools in the Docklands and East Wall area and invited them to participate in the Time Capsule project. The theme was based on life in the Docklands/Dublin in 2010. Submissions included stories, photos, drawings and craftwork. Many schools asked the pupils to predict what they will be doing or what life may be like in 2035. Students hoped for a job and a happy family and some of the younger students wanted to be professional sports players – soccer, rugby and boxing. Some predictions about life included innovative new technologies such as a transportation pod using mind control, flying shoes, magnetic cars and pilotless planes that fly using computer technology only. The final contents added to the Time Capsule today included a photo of the group attending the event, today's Irish Times and a special note from Minister Mary Hanafin.

During the construction phase of The CCD, a special Time Capsule chamber was constructed below the ground just outside the front of the building to the Westside. This chamber is sealed by a manhole cover, which includes a plaque to visibly mark the site. The capsule will be sealed for the next 25 years to mark the 25 year Public Private Partnership agreement between The Irish Government and Spencer Dock Convention Centre Dublin Limited.

Apart from the school submissions, The CCD will also include some marketing materials from The CCD, including newsletters, sales brochures and some pictures. The participating schools were Marino College, Ringsend Technical Institute, Star of the Sea Boys National School, St. Brigid’s Primary School, St. Laurence O’Toole Junior Boys School, St. Mary’s Boys National School, St. Patrick’s Boys National School and St. Patrick’s Girls National School.

Open Day

We will host an Open Day in early September to invite local residents to explore this extraordinary building, which has become a part of the local Docklands landscape. We have received a very warm welcome so far and look forward to building closer relationships with the Spencer Dock and Dublin Docklands community.
