Dublin Named City of Literature for Ever

July 29, 2010

Dublins Writers Museum

I was delighted to hear the news this week that Dublin has been designated a Unesco City of Literature for perpetuity. This is quite an honour as there are only three other cities in the World with this title – Edinburgh, Melbourne and Iowa City. With Dublin’s Writers Museum and a strong history of literature in Dublin and Ireland, it seems a very fitting title for our capital City. It also serves as a wonderful reminder to Ireland and the rest of the World that, for such a small nation, our famous writers have created many of the World’s literary classics.
